The 2016 Pixel Up! Conference, sponsored primarily by Freethinking, was held from 12 – 14 September 2016 at Turbine Hall in Newtown. The Conference, which saw 11 international speakers from the likes of Facebook, Dropbox and Twitter in attendance, was an incredible success with many designers already in anticipation of next year’s Conference.
“We chose to sponsor this incredible event as we see the need for good user experience (UX) design across South Africa and believe in the value of bringing international experts to our country in order to broaden our thinking and expose us to the global trends and challenges facing UX designers around the world”, says Derrick Crooks, CEO of Freethinking.

The Conference was extremely well organised and well received by all in attendance.

“The speakers were top notch,” says Lynnsey Schneider, a Freethinking UX designer. “I even looked forward to going back for day two!” Both Lynnsey and Tracey Wolstenholme, also a UX Designer working for Freethinking, expressed their delight at the opportunity to hear Brad Frost – a web designer from Pittsburg – speak about his Atomic Design System.
“The PixelUp conference met international standards, surpassing all other UX/design conferences that I have been to over the past four years,” says Tracey. “Over and above the incredible speakers, the venue, set up, and food were also world class.”
“We are thrilled by the success of this event and look forward to being further involved in Pixel Up! next year,” concludes Derrick.
